Gıdı Liposuction

What is Double Chin Liposuction (Double Chin Surgery or Jowl Liposuction)?

Double chin liposuction is a procedure that removes excess fat from under the chin in order to eliminate problems such as laxity, sagging and wrinkles. The sagging under the chin, also known as double chin, which occurs after various illnesses, age or obesity, causes both health problems and poor aesthetic appearance. Thanks to double chin liposuction, a more aesthetic, proportionate and healthy appearance can be achieved.

What are the causes of jowl sagging?

Depending on various environmental and genetic factors, sagging of the cheeks can occur. Over time, this can have a negative impact on both health and appearance. These are the causes of jowl sagging:

– Sagging due to ageing

– Sagging due to rapid weight gain and loss

– Sagging due to the effects of gravity

– Sagging due to bad habits such as smoking

– (Genetic) sagging due to the anatomical structure of the person

– Sagging or laxity due to premature ageing (deformation) of the skin for reasons such as inadequate and unbalanced diet or low water consumption.

– Sagging due to skin deformation, collagen deficiency and loss of skin elasticity.

Why is double chin liposuction performed?

Sagging of the jowls due to various factors affects the aesthetic appearance of a person and results in deformity. Double chin liposuction is performed for people who are unhappy with this situation and wish to have a thinner chin, a more proportioned face and a more aesthetically pleasing neck. Excess fat is removed and the sagging appearance of the skin is eliminated.

In fact, the psychological contribution of double chin liposuction is just as important as its physical contribution. The face and neck are the first areas a person sees when looking in the mirror. Therefore, aesthetic anxiety caused by any factor (obesity, sagging, etc.) can have negative psychological effects such as lack of self-confidence, anxiety, depressive mood, introversion and asociality.  In this context, jowl liposuction is applied in cases listed below:

* People with excess fat under the chin for various reasons,

*People with deformities of the face and décolleté,

*In cases where there is a loss of contour in the lines under the chin and the transition between the chin and neck is minimised,

*In cases where the patient appears to be overweight and older than his or her age due to this obesity,

*In cases where this appearance affects self-confidence, psychology and social life,

*Anyone, male or female, who has reached their twenties,

*People who do not have any obstacle to the operation in their general health (heart, diabetes, kidney or any other systemic disease), usually without any age restriction.

How is Jowl Liposuction performed?

Although the type of anaesthetic may vary depending on the patient’s particular condition, sometimes a local (regional) anaesthetic is sufficient, while sometimes a general anaesthetic is preferred. If only one region is being treated, the procedure takes about 30 to 60 minutes. After the anaesthetic, an incision of about half a centimetre is made under the chin. Pre-prepared fluids are injected into the area to control pain and bleeding during the procedure.

The incision area is then exposed to ultrasound or laser to break up the excess fat cells. The fat is then suctioned out. Very fine-tipped liposuction cannulas are used to remove the fat. Once all the fat under the chin has been removed using this method, the procedure is finished and the incision is closed. The procedure is performed according to the principle of individual treatment, depending on the proportion of fat in the cheek area and the volume of the neck area.

Double chin liposuction is often a reliable and comfortable procedure with a rapid healing process. However, the longevity of the results is directly connected with the person’s daily lifestyle. For example, if we take into account such points as regular sleep after the procedure, adequate, regular and healthy diet, avoiding sedentary life, exercise, avoiding bad habits, consuming foods rich in antioxidants, the effect of the procedure increases and it is possible to talk about its permanence for many years. On average, there is mild-moderate pain for 48 hours after the procedure, but this varies from person to person.

What is the recovery process after double cheek liposuction?

Although cheek liposuction is a reliable and comfortable method, there are some issues to consider after the procedure. These are listed below:

– First of all, if the procedure is performed by a specialist, the risks of complications during or after the procedure are very low. People can often go home the same day.

– Unless otherwise instructed by the doctor, a face brace should be worn for one week after the procedure to increase the effectiveness of the liposuction and speed up the healing process. Information on the use of the facial corset should be obtained from the doctor and the instructions should be followed.

– Thanks to the facial corset, the cheek will adapt to its new shape much faster.

– The swelling that occurs during the healing process after double chin liposuction is considered normal and disappears within 2-4 weeks on average.

– By following the doctor’s recommendations, checks and issues such as post-operative diet and exercise, it is possible to achieve the most effective results around 3 months after surgery. At the end of this period, the jowl area will look much thinner and more aesthetic than before.

– It is also possible to prevent oedema (swelling) by avoiding salty, fatty or excessively spicy foods after a cheek liposuction. In addition, it is necessary to drink at least 2.5 litres of water a day to remove post-operative oedema and reduce swelling in the body.

– As cheek liposuction is performed with very fine cannulas, there is no risk of scarring and the healing process is completed within an average of 1 week.

– Showering is not recommended by the doctor for the first 3 days after the procedure. Bathing is allowed after 3 days, provided that the area around the cheeks does not come into contact with too much water.

Frequently Asked Questions About Double Chin Liposuction

Double chin liposuction is a safe procedure when performed by specialist doctors. Although there are some effects such as redness, oedema and pain in the area of the operation, these can be tolerated for a few days and can be controlled with painkillers.

Intervening in the early stages of jowl sagging increases both the success rate and the problem is easily solved with a small intervention. Interventions at a later stage may become complicated operations.

Jowl sagging is more common in women due to hormonal factors and a more sensitive skin type. However, it is also a problem in men due to ageing and weight gain.

The patient should undergo the tests and examinations requested by the physician before undergoing a jowl liposuction. The patient should inform the doctor of any medication, chronic diseases or allergies. Prior to the procedure, the patient should restrict his/her diet according to the type of anaesthesia to be used and should be advised by the medical team. The patient should stop using alcohol, cigarettes, blood thinners and herbal supplements before the procedure.
